FEATURED OKIE COMIC
When did you start drawing?
I’ve been actively drawing since I was around 6 years old. I really don’t remember anytime I wasn’t drawing, although I didn’t receive any formal training till my first year at the University of Oklahoma.
What are your favorite things to draw?
I’ve always liked drawing people. The human anatomy is fascinating because it is an amazing design of bone, tissue and muscle. And seldom are two just alike.
Who are some of your artistic inspirations?
My first is Jack Kirby, because he and Steve Ditko are the artists I was exposed to growing up. Comic art is what got me hooked. Will Eisner also, because his style of storytelling is the gold standard. He gets the reader to follow him into his stories whether it’s the Spirit or any of his life in New York City graphic novels. Then there’s John Buscema, John Byrne, Frank Milller, Mike Mignola, Jason Pearson just to name a few that have influenced me over the years.
Any projects you’re working on or looking forward to working on?
I just finished the last chapter of “Shifters,” and I’m still involved with “Celtic Knights” both in print and web comics. I’m also working towards my teaching degree in art, so I stay pretty busy these days.
